Jeffrey Wilson, 28, has worked out since he was a 14-year-old high school student.
The Salt Lake City, Utah, resident said during his younger days he stayed active by playing basketball and lifting with the football team.
Because of football, Wilson was able to learn about many different lifts and the muscle groups specific exercises targeted.
Although he became disciplined at strength training during this time, he still lacked adequate nutrition.
Wilson said he didn’t follow a sound diet to feed his muscles effectively, which means he ate just about anything.
Over the years, he eventually learned more about fitness, health and nutrition. He put aside practices that got in the way of him reaching his goals of developing a balanced lifestyle, eating healthy and staying active.
Nowadays, people often mistake Wilson for a personal trainer because of the life he chooses to live. “I’m not a personal trainer yet, but I am working toward getting certified. I get a lot of questions about my diet. These are tough questions to answer because our bodies are different. We all respond to foods differently. I tell people to avoid eating processed foods, sugars and a high amount of carbs.”
He said if you have to eat out, stick to Chipotle, or Café Rio. He also recommends eating lots of salads and he even frequents the salad bars at Harmons and Smith’s grocery stores.
Wilson said he wants to make a difference in someone’s life. “I created a fitness Instagram account to really be an example and motivate others. I constantly look at other fitness accounts and it really gets me pumped to see people out there working hard and doing their best.”
He believes the health and fitness community should always be fun, encouraging and supportive.
Wilson said some of us will have an easier time reaching our goals than others, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help each other along the way. “Joining fitness community groups are a great way to stay motivated. I’m lucky to have my wife who is just as motivated as I am. We push each other to reach our common goals.”
Wilson has considered entering a physique competition because he thinks it would be an awesome experience.
When he’s not lifting, you can find him playing a pick-up game of basketball.
In the event he has to splurge on his diet, Wilson usually chooses to eat a food most of us can’t live without, pizza.
He plans to eventually chronicle his health and fitness journey in a blog, but in the meantime, you can follow Wilson’s Instagram account, @Jfit__21.
